INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS
Executive Master’s Program
Polytechnic's Executive Master's Degree Programs are designed for the
professional who wants to be at the cutting edge and who sees
technology as critical for professional success. These programs take
place in "executive format," where students take all required courses
together throughout the duration of the program. This "cohort" format
helps build teamwork skills and results in developing career-long
professional relationships. The executive format offers a number of
unique attributes including a convenient schedule
( Wed evening and
all-day Saturday for MOT and IM in Manhattan; alternating weeks of
Friday and Saturday for ISE in Westchester; and every Saturday for
MOT in Westchester)
and an extended research project designed to
assist students in solving an important business/technology problem
at their current companies.
The following programs are available in
the Executive Masters format:
Master of Engineering: Wireless Innovation
Polytechnic Institute of NYU is offering a new degree program, the Master of Engineering in Interdisciplinary Study in Engineering (Wireless Innovation) specifically designed for working professionals. This unique Master's program is designed to meet the growing needs of companies for highly trained wireless professionals. Students are exposed to the important technological and business concepts in this burgeoning field, and emerge equipped to become its leaders. The program features an interdisciplinary approach, offering relevant courses from the Departments of Management, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Computer and Information Science.
Information System Security Certificate
Polytechnic was among the first institutions nationwide recognized as a “Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education” by the U.S. National Security Agency. We currently offer scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students specializing in computer security. Students can take a number of specialized courses focusing on network security, computer resilience, multimedia protection, and data mining and information retrieval with national security applications.

Master of Science in Financial Engineering
Polytechnic’s Master of Science in Financial Engineering is the first program to be certified by the International Association of Financial Engineers and has been recognized by Financial Engineering News as one of the most innovative graduate programs available. It provides the skills required to operate at the cutting-edge in today’s financial services industry by bringing together three key areas: finance and related business disciplines, quantitative analysis (mathematics and statistics), and
information technology (telecommunications and computer science). The Financial Engineering Program provides anytime/anywhere access to Internet-based trading simulations and sophisticated analytical tools extending the learning experience far beyond the classroom.
Strategic Alliance for Fostering Research and Education in Biomedicine and Bioengineering
In January of 2001, Polytechnic Institute of NYU and SUNY Downstate Medical Center teamed up to form the Strategic Alliance for Fostering Research and Education in Biomedicine and Bioengineering. This alliance pairs New York’s leading institution for science and engineering with the cutting-edge medical program at Brooklyn’s premier Medical School and Graduate biomedical sciences educational center. In fall of 2002, the first class of students matriculated in Polytechnic’s MS Biomedical Engineering program. Downstate faculty members contribute biomedical science courses and also mentor student research projects.
David Packard Center for Technology and Educational Alliances
The mission of the David Packard Center is to promote the effective use of technology, to encourage the study of science and mathematics, and to develop alliances between the university and community institutions. The Center serves as a resource for the professional development of teachers to enhance learning in science, mathematics and technology. In addition, the Center strives for equity in opportunity and access for women and underrepresented minorities in the use of information-age technology and study of mathematics and science.
Certificate in Telecommunication Network Management
The explosive growth of data networks has brought with it the need for effective network management. Polytechnic’s online education department, ePoly, offers an advanced certificate in Telecommunication Network Management, through the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. This program provides managers with modern methods and concepts for integrating current telecommunications and information technology into a firm's overall decision making.
Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering involves its faculty in a wide variety of state-of-theart research and the development of innovative curricula for the civil engineers of the 21st century. Its research focuses on many aspects of urban infrastructure, playing a national leadership role in many areas, while at the same time, being integrally involved in a host of regional and local issues of great importance. Through its involvement in regional issues, students are exposed to a daily laboratory of infrastructure issues and projects all around them. The department is involved in four major interdisciplinary research centers: The Urban Infrastructure Institute, the Urban Utility Center, the Transportation Research Institute, and the Urban Security Initiative.
Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Biological Engineering
Many chemical engineering departments across the country have started to require a biology course as part of their curriculum, but very few have made a full commitment to developing a curriculum in which biological systems and processes are fully integrated across the curriculum as we are doing. Polytechnic’s Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) is the only program of its kind in the New York City area and has been approved with highest marks by the New York State Department of Education. CBE is by far the fastest growing engineering major not only at Polytechnic but throughout the United States as well.
Youth in Engineering and Science (YES) Center
The YES Center is dedicated to nurturing high school students’ interest in engineering and science and encourages them to pursue further academic study. The Center sponsors a variety of high school outreach programs designed to motivate pre-college students to pursue scientific careers based upon their acquired understanding of, and fascination with, technology. The YES Center is underwritten by the Promise Fund, one of Polytechnic Institute of NYU's premier scholarship programs. Over its 18 year history, corporations and foundations have contributed more than 15 million dollars to the Promise Fund, providing scholarships to over 2,000 students in need.
